Kratom is the leaves of the tropical tree Mitragyna speciosa that grows throughout Southeast Asia.  The leaves are first dried and then ground into a fine powder although they can also be lightly crushed or chewed directly.

Where does kratom come from?

Kratom trees are found throughout Southeast Asia but they are mainly harvested in Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand.

What are kratom’s effects?

It’s effects vary depending on what kind of kratom you take.  There are 3 main types of kratom: Green, Red and White, each of which have generally different effects.  Green kratom provides pain relief and a pleasant sense of well-being.  Red kratom has the strongest pain relieving effects and gives a feeling of deep relaxation.  White kratom mainly energizes and rejuvinates you although it does have some pain relieving properties as well.

What are the active ingredients in kratom?

The main active ingredients in Kratom are Mitragynine and 7-hydroxymitragynine (7OHM).  Theyre responsible for the euphoric, pain relieving properties that kratom is known for.  In smaller doses they can feel more energizing and in larger doses, more relaxing.  There are myriad other alkaloids present in smaller amounts which contribute to the varying effects of the different colors of kratom and even between batches of the same color from different locations!

How do I take kratom powder?

It’s simple!  Just mix the powder into water or another drink and take it down.  Many people choose to mix it with orange juice as it not only covers the flavor well, but citrus juice also enhances kratom’s effects.

How much kratom should I take?

For those taking kratom for the first time, start off with half a gram.  A good rule of thumb if you don’t have a scale is that 1 teaspoon is roughly equal to 2 grams, so start out with a quarter teaspoon.  As you continue to use kratom, slowly increase the amount consumed until you feel the desired effects.  An important note is that kratom powder takes about 45 minutes to take effect so don’t take anymore until you’re sure it’s taken effect.

What are the side effects of kratom?

An immediate side effect of kratom is that it suppresses thirst so make sure to stay hydrated when you take it.  If you’ve taken too much kratom you’ll experience nausea, dizziness and agitation.  These will pass as it progresses out of your system.

Can I take kratom while pregnant?

Never take kratom while pregnant.  Its effects on an unborn child have not been widely researched so avoid consuming it.

Can I mix kratom with other substances like alcohol or cannabis?

Never take kratom and another psychoactive substance together.  Mixing kratom with other substances has not been widely researched so it’s unknown what potentially dangerous effects might occur.

Is kratom addictive?

If you use kratom often for long periods of time, it can lead to dependence.  We recommend using the minimum amount of kratom needed to reach the desired effects and take frequent breaks from it.
